As I continue to prepare for The Jerusalem Experiment: securing financial/prayer support, organizing my class schedule while in Israel, and making travel arrangements, my life has taken on a controlled-chaos sort of feel.
My present mania has forced me to consider God’s plea in Psalm 46, “Be still and know that I am God…” On my blog I’ve posted an entry entitled, “The Stewardship of Awe” (click here to read).
As I prepare to spend nearly 5 months in Israel, I am confident and hopeful that God will give me many moments of awe while in the Holy Land. And hopefully, these experiences will be documented in a way that will draw members of the local church into the awe-inspiring beauty of Israel (the Word of God which authored there).
As you begin (or move through) your day, keep this quote by the late Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel in mind:
“Faith is not the clinging to a shrine but an endless pilgrimage of the heart. Audacious longing, burning songs, daring thoughts, an impulse overwhelming the heart, usurping the mind–these are all a drive towards serving Him who rings our hearts like a bell. It is as if He were waiting to enter our empty, perishing lives.”
